New beginnings are magical. The world is fresh once again, and we all have the opportunity to forget past mistakes and create a new and better path for ourselves, our families and our students.
It’s easy to fall into the same routine. In fact, habits are helpful- even essential -to managing your time effectively, as I a spoke about in a recent TMEA clinic on Time Management.
BUT you must constantly analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the habits and routines you employ.
“Are you being most effective in what you do? Are you spending to much of your time on low value tasks?”
To be band specific, do you have an effective and easy to use system for teaching your kids sightreading?
Do you set aside a few minutes everyday, and without even thinking about it, turn to a bookmark you have in an almost 400 page supremely organized directors score and tell your kids to start and play?
Do you have to worry about what they need to learn, what piece you are going to play… is it to hard, to advanced? I forgot where we are even at?
